Overview

The Federal Highway Administration and WashingtonState University are collaborating to produce Hydraulic Engineering Circular 26: "Design of Fish Passage for Bridges and Culverts"; a comprehensive manual for the design or retrofit of a stream crossing to meet fish passage requirements. Input from State Departments of Transportation, non-governmental organizations, and other interested parties will be combined with new research and an extensive literature review to compile design methods, culvert and stream assessment techniques, case studies, and design examples. The manual will provide a set of guidelines to any party interested in the design or retrofit of culverts and bridges to meet fish passage requirements, and is intended to streamline the design.

WORKPLAN

A rough draft of the manual is scheduled to be completed in mid August, 2006. A final draft is planned for January, 2007.
